Here are our lovely dogs.

You will be delighted to learn that almost all the dogs that came from Portsmouth Greyhound Stadium have now been adopted.  The ones that haven't will be loved and cared for by PRG for as long as needs be.  PRG never put healthy dogs to sleep.  As we have spaces we are taking lovely dogs from other areas in the South of England and don't we just love all those big waggy tails.  If you see a dog on this site that catches your eye then ring Liz on 01730 893255

This year following dogs have found loving homes; MAX, SOPHIE, SALLY, ELLIE, MIKEY, BERTIE, BETTY, TERRY, BETSY, CHAMP, MAY, ROY, BO, GAZZA, SALLY, TEDDY, CHIPS, LADY, CILLA, REX, ROBIN, JESS, BELLA, SHILOH, KATIE, BUZZ, DAZZLE, HOMER, LIZZIE, KIM, AMY, MINKY, THAI, FRANKIE, WILLY, CHARLEY, NELSON, BAILEY.

 BARRY

Barry is a lovely, easy going, laid back sort of chap.  Very easy to get on with and loves fuss and attention

BUTCH

Butch is a very friendly boy who loves getting all the attention.  He's in his element when he's being cuddled by someone.

CHELSEA

What a pretty little girl our Chelsea is and with her lovely blue colouring she really suits such a glam name.  She's very shy around strangers but loves a fuss from people who've taken the time to get to know her.

           CASSIE ***ADOPTED***

Cassie is a real sweet little girl; happy, friendly and confident.  She hasn't been assessed yet so we'll let you know more after her initial assessment.

           WILL ***ADOPTED***

Will is such a lovely, affectionate boy but he gets overlooked time and time again.  He recently had a sad loss in his life.  He shared his kennel with a lovely old girl called Ali, but Ali was very, very old and went over the rainbow bridge.  We would be so happy if Will wasn't overlooked anymore and somebody recognised the loving dog that he really is.

 JAY JAY

Here's a thoroughy nice girl who was in a home for a while until her owner's circumstances changed.  She would settle into family life very easily and is obviousl house trained.  She is still quite keen however so whoever is lucky enough to adopt this lovely little lass will need a little patience and understanding with her.

 LUCY

Lucy is a very affectionate girl who loves her fuss and cuddles, but she can be quite willful and stubborn.  She will need firm but gentle handling and it must be remembered that racing greyhounds aren't used to being in trouble and Lucy is used to trying to get her own way.  She's a little love though.

NELLIE

With her beautiful golden coat Nellie would be a real ray of sunshine in anybody's life.  She's fairly small, confident, lively and affectionate.  Would probably make an ideal pet for someone with older playful children.

            NELSON ***ADOPTED***

It's not often we get a photo of a retired dog before he retired, but we've been given one of Nelson so we thought you might like to see it.  Nelson had a long racing career but just got fed up with it, so his owners thought he'd probably like to settle down on a sofa.  He has had an initial assessment and the conclusion was that Nelson is determined to be a retired dog.  He was great with smaller dogs that he met on his walk.  He responds very well to the voice and constantly checks to make sure everything's OK with his walker.  He's quite big but his calm nature means that he isn't imposing.  We are sure he'd make a wonderful pet.

 SPACER

Here's Spacer showing off his radar ears, hopefully he'll be showing off how well behaved he is and we'll let you know more after his assessment.

 NORMAN

Any dog with a name like Norman has got to be worth considering for adoption.  He's ever such a nice chap, lively and loves people.  He engages well with whoever is handling him and that that is always a good sign for distracting him from other dogs.

          JASPER***ADOPTED***

Jasper was far too interested in the rattle of his dinner bowl to stand still long enough to have a second photo taken.  He's a very affectionate dog with a face full of character.

                                              ROBBIE ****ADOPTED****

Robbie is a lovely, affectionate boy but he's very nervous when he's taken out of his familiar environment.  He absolutely loves sitting in the sun with someone who feeds him little treats and any dog who loves little treats will respond to encouragement using treats.  So if you have patience and would like to spend some time sitting in the sun feeding little treats to a lovely, affectionate greyhound then Robbie will be the lad for you.

  JACKO

Despite everyone's best efforts to get Jacko's attention for his photos, we failed.  It was because Jacko had seen what we hadn't, a squeaky toy!  He was happy as larry once he'd got it.  Jacko is a lovely lad who was in a home for quite a while, but his owner died quite suddenly and unexpectedly leaving nobody to look after Jacko.  How he's looking for another loving home, will that be your home?

 GEMMA

Now here's a lovely girl who would much rather get her cuddles than pose for a photo.  She is a bit of a live wire but we'll let you know more after her assessment.

             BAILEY ****ADOPTED****

Bailey is a great big, friendly, lovable chap.  He's always pleased to see people, particularly if they're carrying a dinner bowl.  You see Bailey loves people but he really, really loves food.  Bailey would be happiest with someone who is comfortable with a big enthusiastic chap and a great big secure garden where he can run off some of his energy.

CLASSY

Here's a chap who really suits his name.  We can all see just how handsome he is but we'll let you know more about his temperament when he's been assessed.

PADDY

Paddy is a big boistrous dog who is always thrilled to bits to see anyone, particularly if they've got a dinner bowl or a bit of a treat for him.  His kennelmate was adopted recently so now he's on his own. But as he got on so well with another dog he would probably make a good companion dog for another greyhound. If you've got boundless energy and would like a greyhound to match, then Paddy may well be the chap for you.

           WILLIE ***ADOPTED***

Willie is a lovely boy who's always ready for some attention and perhaps a little something to eat.  He's quite lively and so he's not recommended for a family with children. Willy has been a the kennel for quite some time now and had calmed down no end.  He could almost be described as quite a quiet dog now.  He's been to several of our fundraising events and his behaviour has been wonderful.  He still loves attention and has really enjoyed the attention he's received whilst he's been out and about.

RONNY

Here's a very handsome young chap who would catch anyone's eye.  Little Ronny is quite nervous and shy around strangers but he really wants to get to know people and then he's happy as larry when he's getting attention from them.

      HOMER(ADOPTED)

Homer is an incredibly enthusiastic dog, he's quite big and he's always so pleased to see people that he almost bowls you over.  He's very strong but walks well on a harness rather than a collar and lead.  So if you want a big enthusiastic dog who's always pleased to see you then perhaps Homer is the chap for you.  Homer has been out for lots of walks and the more he's walked the easier he becomes.  Homer has recently been on a 'home' assessment.  He spent the night in an ordinary house with two other greyhounds and he behaved like a perfect gentleman.  His assessor is now sure that he will make a wonderful pet, either on his own with lots of human company, or with another greyhound.

        CHARLEY***ADOPTED***

Here's another sweet little girl enjoying the sunshine.  She's had an initial assessment and though she's still quite keen, we have no doubt that she'll soon settle down and enjoy being a pet dog.  Charley has been with us for quite some time now.  When she first arrived she was still quite keen, but as time has gone by and she has been out and about to various events, she has demonstrated that she has lost most of her 'chase instinct'.  We are now sure that she is more than ready to go to her forever home.

NIGEL

Nigel was very nervous when he first arrived at PRG and it's taken a while for him to settle down and feel comfortable with his new surroundings.  He's like a different dog now, very happy and quite confident.  Nigel was a good racer and he's still got a very keen chase instinct so it will take time and somebody who knows what they're doing with a keen greyhound to continue getting the best out of him.  But Nigel will be worth it.

ASSESSOR'S REPORT

Nigel
Where to start with Nigel? Having been such a good racer, he was still keen to chase anything and everything.  At first his nervousness made him difficult to know, but under the care of the kennel hands, Nigel has begun to blossom.
It was with some trepidation that we took Nigel out for a walk with Molly, the Jack Russell Terrier (she is such a star, calm and completely unfazed by barking greyhounds).  Initially, he took some handling as he felt sure that Molly was provided solely for his chasing pleasure.  But, as the walk progressed, Nigel began to settle and could be called away from staring at Molly.  As we sat in a little field and relaxed for a bit, Nigel decided that being cuddled was more rewarding than lunging at Molly and by the end of the walk, he was walking almost side by side with her back to the kennels.  We were all amazed, and so very pleased.  Could you be the one to help Nigel learn the ropes fully and transform him into the couch potato that every greyhound should be?

           KATIE ****ADOPTED****

Katie is a really pretty girl.who always looks as if she's been in a snow storm.  Her beautiful shiny black coat is covered in little white flecks making her particularly striking.  She has yet to have her assessement but we'll let you know more when she's had it.

           TOMMY ***ADOPTED***

Tommy's a real looker, he's quite tall but not imposing.  He hasn't been assessed yet so we'll let you know more when he's been out and about.

                 SAMMY***ADOPTED***

Sammy is quite a dainty little girl who appears to be quite calm and settled.  We'll let you know as soon as she's had her assessment.

RUBY

It's lovely to see a black greyhound in kennels showing just how lovely and shiny their coats are.  Ruby came to the kennel in tip top condition with her coat already gleaming.  Ruby is very friendly and loves human company but she is still very, very keen and so is really only suitable for someone who knows how to handle a very, very keen greyhound.

TOBY

Toby is a strikingly good looking young boy, but he's very nervous and hesitant.  He's very easily overwhelmed by too much attention so he needs a quiet environment with a patient adopter.  When he does get to know someone he starts to relish affection and when he overcomes his inititial hesitance, he walks well on his lead.

Portsmouth Retired Greyhounds will always board your greyhound when you go away on holiday.  It will give him or her a chance to catch up on old friends and have a gossip.
